PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s loan agreement with Japan worth $58 million has already been signed on Thursday. The loan will be used by Cambodia to expand Siem Reap’s water supply capacity. Minister of Economy and Finance, Aun Pornmoniroth has signed the agreement together with Japan International Cooperation Agency president, Kamei Haruko.

The project called Siem Reap Water Supply Expansion Project aims to build a water treatment plant with a capacity of 60,000 cubic meters per day, using water from the Tonle Sap lake. It also includes the construction of a network - pumping station, water distribution system and construction of water treatment plant. It is believed to play an important role in the supply and distribution of clean water to the people throughout the province.

Haruko has appreciated the cooperation of the Royal Government of Cambodia in implementing this important project. She said JICA has continued to support the Siem Reap Water Supply Authority through another project, the project to improve water and sanitation services to prevent Covid-19 disease, which is an emergency technical cooperation project.

Minister Pornmoniroth has expressed his deep gratitude to the Government of Japan through JICA, which has always taken care of Cambodia in all circumstances, especially in the context of the spread of Covid-19 disease. The project will provide materials and chemicals for water supply that ensure water quality in line with national quality standards in the context of Covid-19 disease.
